LOCAL PATIO INSTALLERS
A Patio That Actually Works for the Garden
A good patio is more than a paved area. It has to sit at the right level to the house, drain properly, give you enough space for what you want to do out there and finish neatly into the lawn or planting around it.
We handle new patio installation and replace tired ones across Wickford and the surrounding area. Where it makes sense, we can extend the size, change the shape or improve the edges and steps as part of the same job, including tying the patio into a new block paving path around the garden. We also build patio steps and paved seating areas where the layout needs them.
If you are also looking at the front of the property, our driveways page covers block paving, porcelain and gravel for vehicles.

PATIO OPTIONS
Patio Options for Different Homes and Gardens
We install porcelain, sandstone, limestone and other natural-stone patios across Wickford and nearby areas. The right paving depends on the house, how you want to use the garden, the finish you prefer and the amount of maintenance you are comfortable with.
The main options are set out below. We can also include matching steps, edging and garden paths so the patio works properly with the house, lawn and wider garden. For a full breakdown of how a patio is built, see our patio paving guide, or browse dedicated pages for porcelain patios, sandstone patios and limestone patios.

PORCELAIN PATIOS
Porcelain Paved Patios for a Clean, Modern Finish
Porcelain paving is one of the most popular choices for modern patios, particularly for homeowners who want a clean, consistent and lower-maintenance finish.
It is available in a wide range of colours, textures and formats, including natural stone-effect, wood-effect and large-format paving.
- Clean, contemporary appearance
- Consistent colour, texture and slab dimensions
- Low water absorption
- Resistant to staining, algae and frost
- Easier to maintain than many natural stone options
- Suitable for modern patios and a full garden replan
INDIAN SANDSTONE PATIOS
Indian Sandstone Patios with Natural Colour and Character
Indian sandstone remains one of the most established patio materials in the UK. Each slab has its own natural colour and texture, creating a more varied and characterful finish than porcelain.
It works well around both traditional and modern homes and is available in popular colours including Kandla Grey, Raj Green and Autumn Brown.
- Natural colour and texture variation
- Suitable for traditional and contemporary properties
- Characterful, textured surface
- Wide choice of colours and laying patterns
- Often more affordable than premium porcelain or granite
Indian sandstone is more absorbent than porcelain, so it will generally require more regular cleaning and maintenance.

LIMESTONE PATIOS
Limestone Patios with a Refined Natural Finish
Limestone offers a smoother and more uniform appearance than sandstone while retaining the character of natural stone.
Popular options include Kota Blue, black limestone, Tandur limestone and tumbled limestone. Its blue-grey, charcoal and darker tones can work well in both traditional gardens and more contemporary outdoor spaces.
- Refined natural-stone appearance
- Smoother and more consistent than sandstone
- Strong blue-grey, charcoal and black colour options
- Suitable for traditional and modern outdoor spaces
- Available in several finishes and formats
Darker limestone can naturally lighten or change in appearance as it weathers and may require sealing and suitable ongoing maintenance.
OTHER NATURAL STONE
Other Natural Stone Patio Options
Alongside sandstone and limestone, we can also lay other natural-stone paving where it suits the design and budget.
Granite Patios
Granite is a durable, premium paving material with a clean and hard-wearing finish. It is particularly suitable for contemporary patios, feature borders, steps and contrasting paving details.
Its strength and durability make it a long-lasting option, although it will usually cost more than sandstone or limestone.
Slate Patios
Slate offers a distinctive darker appearance with natural texture and colour variation. It can work well in contemporary gardens or as a contrasting material within a wider landscaping design.
The quality of slate varies, so the correct product and installation method are important to reduce the risk of flaking or deterioration.
PATIO COSTS
What Affects the Cost of a New Patio
Two patios that look similar on paper can cost very different amounts once you account for the groundwork, levels and access.
We check the ground, the existing surface and how the new patio needs to meet the house during the site visit.
Patio Size and Shape
Larger and more complex shapes need more cutting, edging and laying time.
Existing Surface
Removing an old patio, slabs or concrete adds preparation time and waste disposal.
Levels and Steps
Sloping gardens or differences between house and garden levels can need retaining or steps.
Drainage
Where ground holds water, channels or soakaway work may be needed to keep the patio dry.
Material Choice
Porcelain, sandstone and limestone vary in cost per square metre and installation time.
Access to the Garden
Narrow side accesses can slow material in and waste out, which adds to the labour.
BEFORE WE PRICE THE WORK
Why We Visit Before Giving You a Price
A properly laid patio needs to manage water correctly and sit at the right height against your home. A site visit lets us check the levels and drainage against the house, assess the ground conditions, and see exactly what preparation is involved before we give you a price. It also gives you the chance to talk through materials, layout and what you want from the finished space.
Discuss Your Patio Requirements
We discuss how you want the finished patio to look, how it needs to work and how you plan to use it for seating or dining.
Assess Levels and Drainage
We check the levels against the house, existing drainage, ground conditions and anything that needs removing before paving starts.
Review Paving Materials
We talk through suitable materials like porcelain or sandstone, layout, finishes and realistic alternatives for the property and budget.
Provide an Accurate Quote
