    NEW LAWN IN WICKFORD

A Fresh Natural Lawn for Your Garden

A new lawn is created where there is not currently a suitable established lawn — for example, after a garden has been redesigned, following building or landscaping work, or where an unused area of the garden is being turned into lawn. The process starts from the ground up: clearing, preparing the soil, levelling, and laying fresh natural turf.

We install new lawns for residential gardens across Wickford and South Essex. The ground is prepared to suit the soil and drainage, the lawn is shaped to fit the garden layout, and the turf is laid with staggered joints and firm contact with the soil so the roots establish quickly.

On a free site visit we assess the garden, the soil, the shade and the intended use of the lawn, talk through the options, and provide a clear written quotation covering preparation and installation.

    CREATING A NEW LAWN

What Does a New Lawn Installation Include?

A new lawn installation includes ground clearance where required, soil and growing-layer preparation, levelling, and laying fresh natural turf. Where the existing surface is unsuitable — for example, bare soil, rubble, or weeds — it is cleared before the soil is prepared.

The soil is assessed for quality and drainage. Where the growing layer is thin or compacted, it is improved before the turf goes down. The ground is then levelled to give even drainage and a smooth finish, and edging is installed or refreshed where the lawn meets patios, paths or borders.

This differs from turf replacement, which focuses on removing and replacing an existing unsuitable lawn. A new lawn is about creating a lawn where there is not currently one, or where the garden has been re-landscaped and the lawn is part of the new layout.

    SUITABILITY

When a New Lawn Is a Good Choice

Gardens that have been redesigned or re-landscaped and need a new lawn as part of the layout
Properties where building or landscaping work has left the ground unsuitable for an existing lawn
Gardens where an unused area is being turned into lawn for the first time
New build or recently developed properties where no lawn has been established
Gardens where the lawn area is being enlarged or re-shaped
Properties where the old surface has been cleared and a fresh start is needed

    OPTIONS

    New Lawn Options

There are choices when creating a new lawn. The right combination depends on the garden, the soil, the drainage and how the lawn will be used.

    Lawn Size and Shape

The lawn is designed to fit the garden layout, with the shape worked out around patios, paths, borders and seating areas.

    Soil Preparation

The growing layer is assessed and improved where needed, so the new turf has a good base to establish into.

    Ground Levelling

Levels are set to ensure even drainage and a smooth, usable surface.

    Drainage Considerations

Drainage is assessed as part of the preparation, particularly in gardens prone to waterlogging.

    Lawn Edging

Edging installed where the lawn meets patios, paths or borders to give a clean, defined edge.

    Connections to Garden Features

The lawn is integrated with patios, paths, fencing and borders as part of the wider garden layout.

    THE PROCESS

    Our New Lawn Installation Process

Installation timing depends on the lawn area, access, ground conditions, the amount of clearance required, drainage work, and the weather. We confirm a realistic schedule before booking.

    1. 1Discuss the intended use of the lawn and what is currently in the area
    2. 2Assess the garden, soil, drainage, shade and access
    3. 3Confirm the lawn area, shape and preparation required
    4. 4Provide a written quotation covering preparation and installation
    5. 5Clear the area of unsuitable surface material where required
    6. 6Prepare the soil, improving the growing layer where needed
    7. 7Establish the correct levels and address drainage where necessary
    8. 8Install or refresh lawn edging where required
    9. 9Lay fresh natural turf with staggered joints and firm soil contact
    10. 10Water the new lawn and check the finish
    11. 11Explain the early care needed and leave the working area tidy

    QUOTATION FACTORS

What Affects the Cost of a New Lawn?

We do not provide fixed prices without seeing the garden. The written quotation is based on the work involved, and several factors influence the final figure.

    Lawn area and shape
    Amount of ground clearance required
Soil condition and whether improvement is needed
Drainage considerations and any remedial work
    Ground levelling required
Access to the garden for materials and equipment
    Lawn edging installation
Connections to existing patios, paths and borders

The written quotation will explain the agreed work, materials and preparation so you know exactly what is included before the installation begins.
